Wildflower Turf

Wildflower Turf is a pre-grown mat of UK native wildflowers and grasses, ready to lay on prepared ground. We grow it with a soil-less system in controlled nursery conditions, so every roll arrives already established with its root system intact. It roots reliably on all soil types and gives you a species-rich wildflower meadow in a fraction of the time seed takes.

We have been making Wildflower Turf since 2003 and now grow more than 250,000m² a year across our sites. It goes into a range of landscaping projects, including housing developments, road verges and many public spaces across the UK, wherever the goal is to provide a low-maintenance outdoor space with real ecological and aesthetic value.

  • How quickly does Wildflower Turf® establish?

    2-3 months if installed in Spring or Summer.

  • Do I need specialist installation?

    No, specialist installation is not required. The preparation process is straightforward. Clear the area of weeds, rotovate to 100mm depth, rake off large stones, and lay the turf on the fine tilth. However, if you prefer professional assistance, Wildflower Turf offers an “Find an Installer” service and has an Accredited Partners network available to help with installation.

  • What maintenance is required once installed?

    Daily watering is needed for the first 2-3 weeks after installation (assuming no rain). After establishment, the turf rarely needs watering except during extended drought periods, and the area needs to remain accessible for ongoing maintenance activities.

  • Does Wildflower Turf® help with BNG targets?

    Yes, Wildflower Turf® helps with Biodiversity Net Gain targets as it’s designed to increase or replace biodiversity. We also offer dedicated BNG Grassland Mixes including Lowland Meadows (g3a), Other Neutral Grasslands (g3c), and Lowland Calcareous Grassland (g2a).
