Hampshire-based biodiversity specialist Wildflower Co. is a finalist in the South Coast Tech and Innovation Awards, in recognition of its groundbreaking use of science and technology to help tackle biodiversity loss and accelerate nature recovery.

The pioneering company, which combines more than two decades of scientific research and horticultural expertise with innovative growing technologies, will join fellow finalists at the prestigious awards ceremony in Southampton on 15 October.

Wildflower Co. has been shortlisted in the Tech for Good category for its proprietary, science-led technologies designed to make the creation of species-rich wildflower habitats faster, more reliable and more accessible.

Its innovations include Wildflower Turf®, the UK’s original soil-less wildflower turf system; Meadowscape Pro™, an advanced modular growing system capable of establishing high-quality meadow habitats in just three to four months; and BioNet™, a plant-based, biodegradable alternative to conventional plastic reinforcement.

The company has also expanded its technology into the consumer market with the launch of its Wild Gardens brand and flagship product, Meadow in a Bag™, helping homeowners create biodiverse wildflower spaces and contribute to nature recovery in their own gardens.

Unlike conventional landscaping approaches, Wildflower Co.’s innovations are designed specifically to restore ecosystems rather than simply create green spaces. Each product is underpinned by ongoing research into seed provenance, species compatibility and long-term habitat resilience.

Wildflower Co. Managing Director James Hewetson-Brown said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been named a finalist in the Tech for Good category. There can sometimes be a perception that technology and nature sit at opposite ends of the spectrum, but our business demonstrates just how powerful the two can be when they come together.

“At Wildflower Co., biotechnology and ecological science are at the heart of what we do. We use research, innovation and advanced growing techniques to solve a very real environmental challenge: how to restore biodiversity faster, more reliably and at a scale that can make a meaningful difference.

“Our technologies enable habitats to be cultivated under controlled conditions before they are installed, giving developers, local authorities, businesses and homeowners greater confidence that their projects will succeed. At the same time, innovations such as BioNet are helping us reduce unnecessary plastic, while Wild Gardens is making the benefits of our science and expertise accessible to everyone.

“Being recognised alongside some of the South Coast’s most exciting technology businesses is a fantastic achievement for our whole team. Ultimately, though, the real purpose behind our innovation is simple: to turn environmental ambition into thriving habitats and measurable action for nature.”

The shortlist follows a period of significant innovation and growth for Wildflower Co., which has continued to develop technologies that help customers meet Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and wider ESG objectives while reducing uncertainty in habitat creation.

The company’s approach addresses one of the UK’s most significant environmental challenges: the dramatic decline in wildflower meadows and the associated loss of habitats for pollinators and other wildlife. By combining ecological science with commercial practicality, Wildflower Co. is helping to make biodiversity restoration more scalable, resilient and accessible.

Technology is not simply an add-on to the business but central to its model, with continued investment in research and development focused on improving biodiversity outcomes, reducing resource use, eliminating unnecessary plastics and increasing the success of habitat creation projects.

The South Coast Tech and Innovation Awards celebrate the region’s most innovative businesses and individuals. Winners will be announced at the awards evening on Thursday 15 October 2026, hosted by technology broadcaster Jason Bradbury, at the Leonardo Royal in Southampton.
